OSUL doctoral students' fieldwork
In June 2024, the OSUL doctoral students traveled to Vassieux-en-Vercors for a team-building weekend to share knowledge about their respective specialties, ranging from geology to astronomy. The doctoral students stayed at the Gîte des Carlines for one evening with half-board, thanks to funding from the OSUL. The trip began with an outing to the Font d’Urle plateau, allowing them to observe the various geological structures in this exceptional karst area of the Lower Cretaceous period. A visit to the Grotte de la Luire (with their own funding) was also organized and enjoyed by all. This cave, listed as a historical and geological heritage site, was a key site of the Resistance during the Second World War and, more importantly, the largest Vaucluse-type resurgence (-483 m) measured in the world! Unfortunately, the astronomical observations were canceled due to bad weather.
This initiative could be repeated in June 2025 thanks to the new funding received for their activities by OSUL. A new exciting weekend in the Écrins Massif will be organized, allowing all doctoral students to get to know each other in a relaxing setting.
