Exploring tiny crustal deformation signals using GPS and their implications for deeper Earth processes

Abstract:

In this talk I focus on a number of examples of how very small deformation signals seen in dense GPS station networks tell us about processes (deep) below the seismogenic crust. Examples include horizontal GIA motions constraints on lower mantle viscosity in North America, uplift and extension due to the buoyant Eifel mantle plume, and seasonal modulation of lower crustal dike emplacements in the western U.S.
