Solid Earth Doctoral School 2025
12th edition of « Solid Earth » doctoral school
November 10th-17th 2025
Domaine Lou Capitelle, Vogüé, France
Organizing team: Anne Replumaz, Cédric Twardzik, Laurent Stehly, Stéphanie Durand
This doctoral school trains PhD and Master students by covering most aspects of Solid Earth sciences, including seismology, mineralogy, geodynamics, geophysics and geochemistry. This doctoral training welcomed PhD students and post-doctoral researchers trained in geology, physics, chemistry, mathematics or computer science who are interested in the surface and lithosphere of the Earth. A field excursion was proposed to link theoretical aspects to field observations, poster sessions were organized as well as soft skill sessions.

For this edition the lectures were given by 10 speakers:
Opening seminar | Quentin Bletery (GéoAzur, Nice)
Active Tectonics | Laurence Audin (IRD ISTerre, Grenoble), Baize (ASNR), Nicolas Cathelin (Géosciences Montpellier)
Erosion and landscape dynamics | Pauline Delorme (ENS Paris)
Planetology | Martin Guitreau (LMV, Clermont Ferrant), Ana-Catalina Plesa (DLR, Germany)
Seismic Hazard | Oona Scotti (ASNR)
Lithosphere Dynamics | Jean-Arthur Olive (ENS Paris)
Geodesy | Marianne Métois (LGL-TPE, Lyon)
The school was held close to the epicentral zone of the November 11th, 2019, moderate magnitude Teil earthquake that struck the village of Le Teil and its surroundings in the Rhône Valley, Ardèche. It caused surface rupture and extensive damage to buildings in the epicentral area. So on Thursday 13th we had the chance to see evidences of past regional seismicity. We explored paleoseismological trench sites, where evidence of ancient surface ruptures linked to paleoearthquakes has been uncovered.
