Introducing the facility

The ENS de LYON microscopy and microbiology platform within the LGL is an essential environment for scientific research, analysis of biological samples and in-depth understanding of the mechanisms of behavior of bacteria with their environment. It combines sophisticated equipment such as state-of-the-art microscopes with fully-equipped laboratory facilities for the observation and manipulation of microscopic organisms. In this space, collaboration between researchers and technicians is crucial to ensure efficient operation and quality results.

The microscopy and microbiology platform is an essential facility for research in bio geology and biophysics, offering a safe and technologically advanced environment for the observation and analysis of microorganisms. Thanks to the collaboration between skilled technicians and researchers, this platform plays a central role in discovering new knowledge and improving understanding of microbiology.

Advanced microscopes : The microscopy platform boasts a range of top-of-the-range microscopes for observations in dark field, polarized light or fluorescence. These instruments enable the observation of micro-organisms at sub-micrometric scales.

Specialized microscopy rooms : The microscopy room is designed to maintain temperature, humidity and lighting conditions appropriate for the various microscopy techniques. It is also equipped with an air filtration system to ensure a clean environment.

Microbiology laboratories : A microbiology bench is available for the preparation, cultivation and analysis of biological samples. It is equipped with an extractor hood for the evacuation of toxic vapors.

Microscopy and microbiology technician : The platform is normally managed by a highly qualified microscopy and microbiology technician. This professional is responsible for maintaining the equipment, assisting researchers in using the microscopes, preparing samples, managing microbial cultures and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Training and support for researchers : The technician trains researchers in the proper use of microscopes and microbiology equipment. They advise on best practices and sample handling protocols.

Imaging and analysis systems : In addition to visual observation, the platform is equipped with advanced imaging systems for high-resolution image capture. Image analysis software is also available to help extract quantitative data from microscopic images.

Storing and archiving data : To guarantee data integrity, the platform features secure storage systems for archiving images and research results. This enables continuous monitoring of experiments and the possibility of sharing data with other researchers.

Safety and biosafety : Strict safety and bio-safety protocols are in place to minimize risks. The technician, in agreement with the health and safety department and the researchers concerned, ensures compliance with these protocols.

Interdisciplinary collaboration : The platform encourages collaboration between researchers from different disciplines, promoting a holistic approach to microscopy and microbiology research.

State-of-the-art equipment : The platform constantly strives to remain at the cutting edge of technology by investing in new equipment and maintaining the highest quality standards.
