Publication and protection on the Valanginian Boundary Stratotype Section and Point
Following the ratification by the IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences) of the GSSP (boundary stratotype) of the Valanginien in September 2024, Stéphane Reboulet and his collaborators have just put the associated publication online.
Protection of remarkable areas
Parallel to the publication of this GSSP Valanginien, a working group bringing together different actors (including Stéphane Reboulet) discussed ways and means to protect some remarkable geological sites in the department of Drôme. From now on, the GSSPs Valanginien (section of Vergol, Montbrun-les-Bains), Hauterivien (section of the Serre de l’Âne, La Charce) and Albien (section of the Col de Pré-Guittard, Arnayon) are protected by a prefectural decree that you can download below.
This protection is now accompanied by a request for authorization for rock and fossil sampling of these remarkable sections. Steps are underway to prepare the request for authorization of withdrawals and strengthen communication around this regulation, notably by providing a translation in English of the documents.
