Description of the research project/Description du thème de recherche  :

I investigate magmatic processes occuring within the translithospheric plumbing systems of basaltic volcanoes in the Indian Ocean (including the region’s most active volcanoes: Piton de la Fournaise & Karthala) to understand the role of reservoir processes, volatile release (degassing) and magma ascent in 1) shifts in eruptive regime between effusive and explosive activity, and 2) soil CO2 flux monitoring data. This work is conducted using geochemical (elemental, isotopic) and textural (2D & 3D) analyses of various phases (with a particular attention given to Melt and Fluid Inclusions), along with thermodynamic modeling (thermobarometry, diffusion chronometry, etc).
